Jesus takes the 10 words (commandments) and sums them up precisely by citing the Old Testament Scripture; Matthew 22:37. Loving God is foundational to life in Christ and a life lived here on Earth. Without the love of God in our hearts it becomes highly difficult, if not impossible, to move forward in His will.
Jesus goes on to declare that the second greatest commandment is to, "love our neighbor as we love ourselves." Matthew 22:37-39. Without love for God and ourselves there is no way to love others correctly. When we don't love others, we fall prey to the schemes of the enemy and heaven cries.
Jesus, Ephesians 1:4, above all, sees us as sons and daughters of the Most High God. This is why we are and also who we are. Jesus leaves us with the Great Commission which is to Make Disciples. Scripture relays Jesus' heart to us in Matthew 28:19-20 concerning how we are to walk in this world.
